This was a group project in which we had to re-design the poem book 'Cautionary Tales for Children' for an adult audience. For this, we wanted to come up with an interesting concept, landing on a political theme. This led us into concept ideation, exploring the ways in which we could tie real-life political figures to the characters and stories within the book.
This is the first spread from the poem 'Henry King', which is about a child who consumes so much string that it eventually starts to tie itself around his organs. Therefore, we picked Matt Hancock, and decided to relate to his time on 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here'. I have done these illustrations, which were informed by research into this sort of political satire illustration and our various ideas of how to best lay them out within the book.
This shows the contents page and the structured outline that is displayed before each poem. Working around the brief, where we could not alter the text, we decided to add informal footnotes that would clarify each poem and their political relevance.
